Todoist is a great option for a robust "To Do" platform and it's got nice team features. In a development or visual environment, you may use Trello (larger firms are already using Atlassian / Jira if you are running an Agile shop). Conversely, I have one good friend who works for a major tech company in Seattle that told me, "it's brutal, in an effort to prove you are working hard, everyone is working 10, 12, 14 hours and available 24/7 instead of working regular hours and making themselves available on a case-by-case basis." You may want to consider a task-based system, which can be accomplished using Microsoft Sharepoint, Teams, (Projects is Paid) or Google's Keep, again all pre-baked. What type of environment are you? Driven by specific tasks and projects? Punching the clock? Unfortunately, many people will not be as productive as they should be working from home. (Other options would include, GoToMeeting, etc). There are certainly compelling reasons to consider external services, but for most businesses the internal solutions of more robust platforms are enough. If you are reading this, you are almost certainly not using Cisco ( Webex) and would most likely be a candidate for Zoom for a video option again, this is if you don't want to use something like Hangouts or Skype or the pre-baked options that Slack offers. You can also add people external to your org, clients, consultants, etc., to these systems. These systems will reduce your internal emails by 90%, I can almost guarantee. (Note: Discord was designed more for public use of servers, so you have to manage permissioning well). As a free-er option, you may wish to consider Discord. Slack is the solution for this but unfortunately it's practically essential you pay for their service the free option is severely limited. At one point we used a plugin and saw that 80+% of our emails were internal. One of the fastest things you realize when you start working remotely in earnest is the volume of internal emails. Schools have Google for Education as well as other solutions that we don't really have the time to go into here. If you are a 501(C) nonprofit, please consider Google for Nonprofits and check out their Grant programs. I feel these make services like Dropbox and Box redundant, but they are certainly the best of breed for Cloud storage if you need that service. On top of that, they come with storage solutions, OneDrive and Google Drive respectively. A single login for email, cloud documents, presentations, etc., is great. It's hard for a mid-sized firm to really present a compelling reason to run an Exchange server these days and if you're like a former client of mine, employing 50 people and running off GoDaddy's internal email options, it's time for a change. I'm ambivalent to the two major players in this arena for Cloud suites, but far and away your best options are Microsoft Office 365 and G Suite (formerly Google Apps). ![]() Without further adieu, here are 10 Helpful Software Applications I hope this can help you in this time of turmoil to build a stronger business that will be well equipped to withstand future challenges. My most popular workshops centered around precise and practical advise. ![]() ![]() ![]() I have seen how challenging this is because our local economy largely hinges on small business and I spent a few years giving seminars to local trade organizations. While enterprise corporations have their business continuity plans tested and their servers strained, small and mid-size firms are slowly realizing it may not be possible to conduct business as usual for the next few months. We moved from our hub and spoke to a predominantly remote environment. Then I landed in an area where the local talent pool was not deep enough in key skills people also balked at 30 and 45 minute commutes (I know my friends are chuckling in major metros). Even though I spent almost a decade working with people all over the world, it still hinged on face-to-face meetings and a centralized office (hub and spoke). I remember my shift from a physical to geographically dispersed workforce.

The famous children book author, once wrote that “The lives of great men are like legends, difficult but beautiful”. In order to understand one’s emotions and wishes, we must turn to the infant. In his book, Janusz explains that Napoleon suffered from tetanus and that Bismarck had rickets, and both of them, as many other people were infants before they became men. As he famously says, “You yourself are the child whom you must learn to know, rear, and above all, enlighten”, Janusz was trying to teach parents that children are individual beings, not their property.Īnd most importantly, Janusz was probably among the first, even before Freud, who recognized the importance of infancy in human development. Janusz suggests that parents should not see their children as the person they were meant to be. The main thesis in the book is that you cannot love your child, or another’s individual child until you see him as a separate being. Janusz was writing the book during the war, and because of the long war, the manuscript grew to hundreds of pages. At the end, it became a manuscript of child development, but not in the usual and common way. In it, Korczak intended to share the experience of his work as a pedestrian. One of the most popular books by Janusz is the pamphlet “How to love a child”. Instead, the director of the orphanage refused, and stayed with his children as they were all being killed. Marching, with his head bent forward, Janusz hold the hand of a child, followed by few nurses and two hundred children, all dressed in their clean cloths.Īnd when they were almost at the altar, an SS officer recognized Korczak, and offered him to help him escape and safe his life. Nicely dressed and in a happy mood, the children were taken to Treblinka where they would later be killed in the gas chamber, along with their director. The director told the orphans to wear their best clothes, and as they came out into the yard, they were taken by an SS people. Instead, Janusz told the orphans that they will go out in to the country, cheering them and making them feel happy. Faced with the inevitable, the director chose to stay with his children, and sacrifice his own freedom, as he could have left the building and be spared. It is in those gas chambers that millions of Jews lost their lives.ĭuring the Grossaktion of Warsaw, Janusz was working as a director of an orphanage. A camp equipped with gas chambers, Treblinka was disguised as place with showers for the processing of transports of people. During the operation, known as the Grossaktion of Warsaw, Jews were terrorized and sent to their deaths at Treblinka, one of the most horrifying Nazi camp for extermination. Between July and September in 1942, Nazi began an operation of mass extermination of Jews from the ghetto in Warsaw. However, his penultimate moment came in 1942, during the Grossaktion of Warsaw. Korczak was famous in Poland for his job with orphans. Suffering does not make men noble, so Janusz tried to help as much as he could. Quite the contrary, the whole world is submerged in blood and fire, as well as tears and mourning. Korczak famously said that it is not “only the Jews who suffer” during the World War II. It is that determination and wish that made Janusz the man he was, one of the few people who were ready and determined to sacrifice themselves for the greater good. The young utopian in the book, King Matt, dreamed of making a better world for children. It is there where readers can see Janusz as the small and vulnerable man he was, the man whose eyes were intense and sad, and a man whose bald head disappears into the white space. One of the two is King Matt the First, on which Korczak poses as a young boy. ![]() Even though he has written more than 15 books, only two have been translated to English. Who was Janusz Korczak?
